Dr. Keiko Yanai

Keiko Yanai is an insightful and attentive physical therapist based in New York, NY. After working in hospitals and rehabilitation centers, Dr. Yanai opened her own successful practice in Manhattan. Dr. Yanai thoroughly investigates the source of a patient’s complaint in order to tailor a treatment option that not only addresses the symptoms of the complaint but the underlying cause as well. She employs both traditional Western medicine and alternative, holistic methods in her treatment plans for optimal results. Dr. Yanai’s early life experiences primed her for an interest in integrative medicine, and specifically, physical therapy. At a young age, Keiko learned how powerful Western medicine could be when she was conventionally treated for severe asthma as a child. She also learned of Western medicines limitations when she later developed dermatitis. Finding no relief through conventional means, Dr. Yanai turned to alternative medicine. She sought Chinese herbal medicine, acupuncture, chi treatment and dietary supplements. Also, she learned the importance and curative benefits of touch at a young age. When she was ten years old, her mother suffered from chronic lower back pain. Wanting to help, she learned how to massage and manipulate her mother’s back, and through her self-taught methods was able to relieve her discomfort. Some of the complaints she has treated include scoliosis, herniated disks, sport injuries, migraine, acid reflex, bladder incontinence, post-operative/infection scar tissue, pelvic floor pain, and TMJ pain. Modalities Dr. Yanai uses include craniosacral therapy, visceral/nerve/vascular mobilization, joint articulation, deep tissue massage, myofascial release, and Reiki. Dr. Yanai is fluent in English and Japanese.
